Mission and Goals
Mission
Our mission is to provide teens and adults with autistic spectrum disorder and other disorders which effect social relatedness with social, recreational, and educational opportunities, as well as providing support for parents and siblings of these teens and adults.
Goals
Participants will increase their social interactions outside of the home, and in the community, with same age peer groups during recreational and social activities.
- Participants will gain access to peers with similar interests, in a supportive environment, where friendships can be developed and nurtured.
- Participants will improve the quality of social interactions within the group, by participating in structured programs during group meetings (such as structured conversations, team building games and activities).
- Participants will engage in pre-vocational and job-related activities, and other independent living activities, to assist in the development of life goals.
- Parents of participants will gain support from other parents, as well as increase knowledge of disability services, to be effective advocates for their children.
- Siblings of participants will gain support from other siblings, sharing life experiences, and to form their own bonds to help deal with issues associated with sibling responsibilities in supporting their brothers and/or sisters with autism.
